Managing Projects using Prince2 :

Description:

This training course teaches the disciplines, concepts and techniques in project management, using the Prince2 framework and terminology. It will involve a progressive project simulation, involving syndicate workshops and interactive sessions.

 

The course does not just teach the Prince2 methodology - it also teaches the principles, concepts, practices and skills necessary to execute a Project Management process or to mange a project, using the terminology and structure of Prince2.

Course Duration

5 days - normally run in-house by companies using a Prince2 based method.

Intended for (who)

All disciplines who will interact with the project management process or share responsibility for delivering elements of projects. Project, programme managers, planning analysts and project office staff.

Course objectives:

•  To demonstrate the Prince lifecycle and framework of project management and to show how it interacts with the technical / product development lifecycle
•  To teach all skills necessary to define, estimate, plan and control a project
•  To demonstrate how to establish and execute a Project Management process

•  Requirements Management: improving capture & analysis; dealing with assumptions & risk
•  Product & Work Breakdown Structure: its role in definition and execution

•  Key Roles & responsibilities & the Project Management Plan
•  Mobilisation – critical importance of organisation
•  Defining planning structures and processes: Top down –v- bottom up plans?

Defining a Project:

•  Developing the Business Case and PID
•  Basic forms of estimating & why they are typically ‘wrong'
•  Principles of improved estimating & how to improve estimates
•  Effective, simple and powerful techniques, e.g. Delphi

Managing Risk:

•  Improving risk identification
•  How to reduce risk systematically & integrating risk into mainstream processes
•  Improving risk management and control

Scheduling and Resource Management:

•  Integrating the outputs of the planning process
•  Developing plans that improve technical control
•  Constructing and analysing network based plans
•  Resource allocation, analysis and scheduling
•  Using milestone and master plans etc

Control Stages and Execution:

•  Finalising the Baseline Plan & integrating risk
•  Gates - project level and ‘control' level
•  Controlling a stage
•  Managing stage boundaries
•  Progress measurement and maintaining plans
•  Performance Management – Earned Value Management,

•  Wider measures of performance that enhance control
•  Issue Management and Acceptance of Deliverables

•  Managing and incorporating change
