Microsoft Project 2003 - Online Training Course - Downloadable (PDF)

This online course focuses on the key steps to set-up, develop and maintain project plans using Microsoft Project (MS Project)  2003. This storyboard will take you through a series or worked examples that will demonstrate clearly:

  • the many key settings you need to be aware of and establish before you enter planning data, and
  • the affect of various user defined options on the output of MS Project (timescales and resources)

The storyboard shows the many user settings within MS Project and in particular, it demonstrates through clear and simple worked examples their direct effects on the resulting schedules, allowing users to understand and control Microsoft Project data efficiently and quickly - a must for anyone using MS Project 2003.

Course focus and Agenda

The course does not cover every feature of MSP such as 'collaboration', it shows you the steps to develop and resource a critical path based plan in MSP, and most importantly, will show users how to understand and interpret the results that MSP is giving you - which quite often is not immediately obvious.

This online course covers the following steps in MSP 2003:

  • setting calendars and working time and how to achieve consistent results from the time analysis (and avoid the opposite)
  • dealing with all key controls and user defined options, again ensuring consistent results and enabling you to understand the results that MSP gives you
  • effects of 'tasks types' in MSP on the schedule and resources - relationship between work, resource units and task duration
  • assigning resources to tasks and setting resource availability to enable a resource analysis in MS Project
  • determine resource requirements for your project
  • resource analysis and resource scheduling
  • setting the scheduling options, including: effort driven scheduling; again, demonstrating effects on the results of the schedule.

Please note this course does not cover any other areas of functionality of the product (such as Project Server or Enterprise Global Templates). It is aimed the aimed at helping users to understand and control the planning environment in MSP 2003, and entering controlling and interpreting core planning data efficiently.
